Chapter 6 : A New Green Interior

With lots more water around there will be a lot more bush. The fear of larger bushfires in our nature parks should cause our Government authorities to rethink the shape of our parks.  Perhaps they could be shaped in an hourglass shape or a string of beads shape so if firefighters can’t beat a fire in one section of the park at least they may be able to defend another part of the park at the narrow pass and allow wildlife an escape route from a burning section of the park to a safe section.

To reduce wildlife road kill road tunnels under this narrow section of the park will be cheaper to build and less intrusive. This reshaping of the parks will be done by swapping neighboring farmland for parkland. The monitoring of wildlife for research purposes and the controlling of feral animals at these narrow passes with fireproof surveillance equipment and a string of "felixers" may also be beneficial.

The landscape of new national parks may be manipulated to make them more inviting to eco-tourism. Waterfalls and rivers with beautiful lagoons could be created. These parks didn't exist before because there was no water to support them. Designers have a free hand to create what they deem most appropriate. The parks need to be designed to encourage the local wildlife to multiply. The more wildlife, the better the eco-tourism experience. However, the environment needs to be eco-tourism friendly in the hope that these parks will become not only sanctuaries for wildlife but humans as well. Have camping facilities and bike trails within these nature reserves.

Townships can now afford to have new subdivisions built with artificial lakes as their centerpiece. Water sports where once there was only desert could be the new norm. Living next to a large body of water may help moderate temperature fluctuations. Just like you have playgrounds in parks, why not design swings and slides anchored in the middle of the lake with flowing water, fountains, spouts, and string lights all powered by solar power? Let your imagination run free. A compelling environment is one that people want to live in. Don't just have the pub, tennis courts, and football fields as the only things to do in town.
