A Living Luxury Resort
I've read that only 21% of the original "old-growth" forests still exist on Earth. I also heard that to build a navy Queen Elizabeth I had to get timber from Europe to build ships because the Romans cut all the "old-growth" forests down in Britain. An "old-growth" forest in wet areas is considered to be at least 250 years old. That made me wonder how many people alive have walked through a forest full of "old-growth" trees? Not many I would think. Probably because there aren't many around.
One day I'd like to see a luxury resort corporation, in conjunction with a progressive government, build a "living luxury resort". This requires a large chunk of land which can be designed from the ground up to provide irrigation, the introduction of the correct trees, and supporting fauna and flora. The luxury resort facilities are designed to blend into the forest. As the forest grows and the trees grow taller, the resort spreads up into the trees.
Nature walks are provided allowing people to experience all there is to see in the forest. Canopy walks should also be designed. Electric wheelchairs with wheelchair-friendly paths exist. The forest is eventually so big that paved bike trails exist. Bungalows hang off trees, sit on the ground, and are perched above the tree canopy. All with a magnificent view. The bungalows are made from bamboo in a special architectural design to blend in with the forest, they are pleasing to the eye, and perform the functions expected of a luxury resort. Rivers, streams, waterfalls, and lagoons exist in the resort. Visitors can swim in the lagoons and lie in the waterfalls.
Plenty of people visit the Great Barrier Reef every year. It makes lots of money for Queensland. We can't build a luxury resort inside the reef. So why not build a luxury resort inside an "old-growth" forest that we started. We just have to start it.
I know what you are going to say... why start something we will never live to see? What stupid corporation would do that? Let me think. If I were the owner of the Hilton Hotel Group or some other billionaire, and I had enough money to live very well for the rest of my life, then I might be looking to leave a legacy. What about this resort as a gift to future generations? Now that would be a legacy people will enjoy for hundreds of years to come.
