The Future of Democracy in Australia

If you look at Russia, some believe it is so big and has such diverse territories that it cannot be a functioning democracy. It's not as rich as America so it can't induce cooperation through benefits. For instance, the state of Mississippi would be much poorer through an extended period of bad management, if it were not in the USA. So Russia must use force to hold its empire together.

Australia is a big country too. If, in the future, we had hundreds of millions of people living here, how could we hold so many people together willingly in one country for one purpose? In my opinion, if all the inner territories were reliant on clean water being piped from coastal territories, this is as good as the money the USA uses to hold it's states willingly together. You won't need enforcers as Russia does, so you won't threaten the democracy we enjoy in this country.

You might say, "but the coastal territories with access to the sea for water cannot be bound by the need for a constant reliable supply of clean water". As Global Warming increases not only will droughts become more severe, floods will as well, especially in coastal areas. What if the interconnected pipes throughout Australia could pump water from an oversupplied area that is causing damage to a dry area even if it is hundreds of miles away. So the states would be linked by climate needs as well. You use the force of nature rather than the force of strong-arm tactics to underwrite this huge democracy that Australia could become.

If we started investigating this stuff now then within 50 years this is what we will look like. While other countries are trying to shut themselves off from importing new immigrants to their country, we will see them as building blocks to a larger and larger GDP. We will see them as a stepping stone to a more self-reliant Australia. It is said that when America sneezes the rest of the world catches a cold. It's because they are such a big economy and they can produce almost anything they want given the time. And they have a very diverse economy. We don't. Our economy is small and heavily reliant on other countries. And we will never become a diverse economy until we get bigger. Fixing our tax laws would help also.
